No challenger

NJ-4 is without an official Dem challenger to Rep. Chris Smith. Gary Schiavone apparently withdrew from the race late last week.

I emailed the contact address on his web page a while back asking to be on his email list, but I never even got the email that MrLiberal did.

So much for that.

Amazing, the power of incumbency. Even though I'm on the other side of the aisle, I'd rather see these races contested. It's healthy for the voters to have a choice.

I think this might help us in NJ-3.
if there is a silver lining?

Am not sure how it would help in the 3rd. Dems in the 4th never mount a serious challenge, as evidenced by the fact that this guy ran for about six days total.

Smada is right- every election should be contested. It keeps politicians out of complacency and on their toes, usually. Here in the 4th, however, Rep. Smith doesn't even campaign. Last time he ran, he flat refused to debate his opponent- that made the news, and it was the first time most voters heard her name.

She faded quickly into obscurity, although not as quickly as Schiavone.

I think the biggest challenge in the 3rd is the name game. Sexton? Saxton? Saxons? Sexpot? Who's who?

Sharon,
I am just saying since 3rd and 4th both encompass burlington county. Right? i could be wrong.
are you in nj-4?

I am in NJ-04, but I no longer live in Burlington. Since there's no longer a Dem in the 4th, Sexton may get some of the county money, but I don't know how much additional focus he'll get because of this.

There's apparently a write-in candidate in the 4th for the Dem nomination, Carol Gay. I'd like to get behind her immediately but I have no idea who she is or what her positions are, and am having no luck finding out as of yet. That BlueJ diary is all I've got, anywhere, that she's even trying.
